NEW SPORT ALERT: Pen Spinning

One measly comment has been made. :(

“They fight with felt tips, and do battle with ball points.” The tournament began in 2007 as an online competition between pen spinning whizzes who recorded videos of themselves displaying their biro acrobatics to send to the competition organizers. The Pen Spinning World Tournament now has contestants from 10 countries competing in realtime. Tons more info after the jump.

I am an American who has lived in Taiwan for almost 3 years. I am a graduate student at a Taiwan university and have taught elementary school here as well. Pen spinning (albeit of a much more amateurish style than we have seen here) is ubiquitous. It’s addicting. I can’t sit through a class anymore without constant flipping back and forth, back and forth, back and forth. Like coffee in the morning. Can’t exist without it. Used to view it as rude. How can you sit and play with toys while the teacher is leading discussion? Now, no question. Pen spinning is it.
