MARK YOUR CALENDAR: Video Games Live

WHERE: All up and down the East Coast, Philadelphia on the 11th, NYC shortly after
WHEN: See above. Now is the time to buy though.
WHAT: Since the initial Video Games Live! concert four years ago at L.A.’s Hollywood Bowl, co-creators Tommy Tallarico and Jack Wall have powered-up the event into an international touring production. Each two hour show features a local symphony playing video game classics, tons of video and lasers, lasers, lasers. “Some classical musicians are apprehensive, as well they should be. They have been playing Stravinsky and Mozart all their lives,” Tallarico says. “You can see them sit down for the first time and the players and crew are reading the music and it says World of Warcraft and Sonic the Hedgehog thinking ‘What is this?’ But then when they play the music for the first time together you can kind of see them looking around nodding their heads that this is legitimate music.” How fun is that? Complete tour listings (plus loads of videos, pics, and press) after the jump.

HONORARY DOGGLER: Mark Malkoff (Mr. Keys To The City)

He’s been called an inspiration, a press machine, and a madman (see also: comedian, film maker, and story teller). I’m lucky enough to call him a friend as well. Whatever the tag, one thing is for sure: Mark’s done it again. This time, with a little help from Ford (nod and wink to the sponsor) he’s on a tour of the US doing whatever it takes to collect the keys to as many cities as possible. You’d be surprised how little it takes to get the key in some spots, or the lengths Mark is willing to go to to secure it in others. Anyway, while the publishers, morning shows, and scrip writers are lining up to get a piece, you can follow Mark’s awesome adventure via Facebook.

How fun is that?

PLAY: Caps

This was my all time favorite puzzle game when I was young… we called it “Pegs” then (and didn’t play online) but still. Each cap jumps the one next to it to take it off the board. Do it in the right order and you’ll be left with just one… and move to the next level. Otherwise you’ll be pushing undo. First though, click the pic to make the jump. Next, post high scores below.

FUN VIDEO: High-Speed Heel Toe

I’ve got to learn how. Unless it’s just an editing trick… in which case it’s just fun to watch. Anyone care to weigh-in?

HONORARY DOGGLER: Michael Cera

George-Michael from Arrested Development is also a master photo bomber. Amazing! Who knew? ThisIsPhotoBomb.com that’s who.

HOW TO: Crack a Master Lock

At first glance, there 64,000 possible combinations to open a pad lock… that’s more than 1 week of 24/7 manual attempts (and not a lot of fun). Ready for the easy way to reduce it down to 100, and from there, have it open in less than 5 minutes? Check out the full-sized instructions after the jump and practice on your own lock. Next, you can either astound your friends, worry about your stuff at the gym, or both. It all depends on your outlook really…

UPDATE: Secret Project X

Sorry for the lack of doggle these past two days, I’ve had my hands full with something we’ve dubbed “Secret Project X”.

Without giving too much away, what you’re seeing here is a metal shop in my neighborhood called Fourth State Metal. The good guys at Fourth State were kind enough to make me – er, well, what they made me is the secret – but they wound up making a lot more of it than I ever dreamed. So much so in fact that just putting it in boxes (those boxes behind me are stacked 4 tall, each row is two boxes wide and 32 feet long, and there were 8 rows in total) took nearly 80 man hours. Most of the labor was women, that’s just the way it works out when we put out the call for help, but you get the idea… it was an ‘all hands on deck’ situation.

Anyway, today these boxes are making their way to a staging area in Connecticut, and tomorrow they’ll be sent out all over the country. I’ll keep you posted, but first one to spot the things in the wild wins a prize. This little caterpillar is about to become a butterfly. How fun is that?

PLAY: Blitz Ball

Whoa, it’s a strategy game pretending to be a shooter. I like shooting though AND I like strategy. What could be better? Everything you need to know is written along the right side. Click the pic to get the game. Post scores below please. NOTE: It might take a second to load. It’s coming though.

UPDATE: PowerPoint Improv (formerly PowerPoint Karaoke)

A million thanks to everyone who came out last night, Gothamist for spreading the word, and SwissMiss for the inspiration. We had more presenters than expected, but more than enough prizes, laughs and fun to go around. I couldn’t be more pleased (read: hung over). Congrats to last night’s winner Anil Dash, and keep your eyes pealed, this is going to be a monthly jam, but there’s more in store. How fun is that?
