HONORARY DOGGLERS: The Gowanus Pool Club

Here I thought I was thinking outside the box by installing a giant, inflatable pool in the back of my Brooklyn apartment (the apartment is a rental, but I didn’t see anything about ‘no pools’ on the lease). Turns out there’s a group in Gowanus that’s pulled a similar maneuver using three dumpsters (cleaned obviously). Well done. The New York Times has the full story after the jump… it’s a fun read too. Have a look.

GET: Doodle Bread

Writes Rose Kane:

“Hey Zoomdoggle,
Longtime reader, first time writer, my name is Rose and I am an independent designer and baker who has found a way to bake loaves of bread with little doodles on each slice using different (natural!) colors and flavors. I won a design award in the UK and just launched my website selling home baking kits.” Bread doodles? Why not? Sounds like fun.

QUICK: Name A Puppy (For Charity)

Some time ago I asked for help in naming my new, handsome, giant, amazing puppy dog… and boy did you come to the rescue. You posted 116 comments here on Zoomdoggle. There were even more on Twitter. And NameThis, a fantastic service for anyone looking for help naming anything, nearly broke the bank for over 360 more sugjestions. When it was all said and done though, I couldn’t name him Milo (too Disney), or Banksy (too hip), or Wally (too goofy). Nope, only one name felt right: Cashew! It’s good, right? He’s Cashew colored, he acts like a nut, plus the nick-name “Cash” sounds sharp and manly. The dog got a name, so far so good, right? But there’s more…

The whole thing made me realize how fun it is to name puppies. If only there was a way to harness all of that fun-ness for good. Introducing the Zoomdoggle Puppy Namer.

Here’s how it works: Every Monday we put a new pup up for naming at PuppyNamer.com. For every name suggested, our weekly sponsor will donate 50 cents to a pet related charity. For every vote that name gets, another 25 cents is given to the cause. But that’s not all. If your name win the most votes by the end of the week, you’ve won yourself a cool $10. How fun is that? Click through, Pup 1 is pretty rad and deserves a great name and, did I forget to mention, he’s also without a great a home? If anyone wants to take him, let me know and we’ll put you in touch with the adoption agency. Everyone’s a winner!

FUN VIDEO: Cat On A Subwoofer

Cat + Subwoofer = Fun.

NOTE: I was going say something like, “I haven’t seen this much pussy bounce since ‘Cat On A Trampoline.’” But it turns out cats don’t really bounce on trampolines so much as slide. Really, click here.

QUICK: Gauge Your Distractibility

Everyone thinks they’re great at multitasking behind the wheel… right up until the time hit someone else, multitasking, behind the wheel. So how good are you really? Only one way to know (and it’s funner than calling Geiko after the fact). The New York Times online has launched a game in which you switch lanes to get though the toll plazas, while trying to respond to texts on your mobile. And there’s a hidden trick or two thrown in for good measure. As or me? I missed 22% more gates while texting. That’s almost three times worse than the average. How’d you do?

Introducing the chalk-board tee. Tiny pocket for chalk, “chalk-it” space for writing, and tie shaped for those days when a certain formal air is required. How fun is that?
