Play Shaper

Take the random shapes you’re given and set them in a line without hitting any mines. It’s a good one. Sadly, there’s no embed, so when you click the pic we’ll jump you over to Armor Games. It’s worth the effort though.

HONORARY DOGGLER: KT Barbeque’s Kenny Tessel

When buisness slowed down, Kenny, well, you’ll see. His solution is smart, fun, and worked. Nothing wrong with that.

Garfield Minus Garfield

Meet my new favorite thing. “Garfield Minus Garfield is a site dedicated to removing Garfield from the Garfield comic strips in order to reveal the existential angst of a certain young Mr. Jon Arbuckle.” Yup, without the cat, Jon-jon just looks nuts. Life is all about perspective. There’s a new strip daily. How fun is that?

An extra fuzzy thank-you to Patrick Dunn for sending this my way.

NEW SPORT ALERT: Bicycle Parkour

Wikipedia defines Parkour thusly:
Parkour (sometimes also abbreviated to PK) or l’art du déplacement (English: the art of movement) is an activity with the aim of moving from one point to another as smoothly, efficiently and quickly as possible, using principally the abilities of the human body. It is meant to help one overcome obstacles, which can be anything in the surrounding environment—from branches and rocks to rails and concrete walls—and can be practiced in both rural and urban areas. Parkour is a considerably dangerous activity and injuries are fairly common. Parkour practitioners are referred to as traceurs, or traceuses for females.

CHECK OUT THE VIDEO HERE. Above is the byclcle version. It starts off pretty slow, but jump ahead about a minute or so for the fun stuff (riding on the top edge of fances, up trees, you get the idea). Danny MacAskill, the guy on the bike, is my new hero.

New York’s Nether Regions

Nuts, that’s where I live, in Brooklyn. Dick, I’ve got to go into town for work today. Yup, I’ll be punching in somewhere around the tip of Manhattan… oh man, the fun never ends with this reinvisioned subway map. Though it came out in 2000 for a CAE Gallery show, it sprung up again on Kottke yesterday, leading to a new ending stream of puns in my inbox. Thanks all for the tip. Er, well, you know.

Anyone got a pun worth sharing? Post it below.

FUN READ: Wired Issue 17.05: The Mystery Issue

From the New York Times:

A few nights ago Steven Bevacqua, a postproduction supervisor for the television series “Life,” was flipping through the May issue of Wired magazine when he thought he started seeing secret messages. Yes, he’d just come home from a long day at work, but then again, the issue was guest-edited by J. J. Abrams, a creator of enigmatic television shows like “Lost” and “Fringe.”

So, as Mr. Bevacqua wrote on his blog, he spent the next several days following the hidden clues he believed he’d found, using Morse code, alternative computer keyboard layouts and even electrician’s wiring codes to solve the covert brainteasers. Finally he was directed to a hidden Web site, from which he sent an e-mail message to a secret account. A short while later he learned that he was the first Wired reader to solve an extensive hidden puzzle embedded throughout the magazine.

The New York Times has the full story, but even better, your local newsstand has the issue.

FUN VIDEO: Dog Accompanies Self

That’s my jam. Rover plays a note. Rover sings. Rover plays a note. Rover sings. How fun is that?

MARK YOUR CALENDAR: World Pole Sport & Fitness Championships

“Today’s pole dancing is a sensual athletic art form, where creativity meets physical strength… As a pole dance federation, the USPDF (US Pole Dance Federation) vision is to create a network for pole dancers and studio owners in the US. This network will provide a structured standard in the industry and serve as a source to exchange ideas, and to give feedback among pole dance instructors.” Pole dancing feedback is fun, but it starts with taking in an eyeful… also fun. The pictures above are from the US finals, but the World Pole Sport & Fitness Championships will be held on on Saturday the 25th on the beautiful island of Jamaica in Runaway Bay.

NOTE: The US site has some pretty amazing video from March 15th American finals, held right here in New York City.

FULL DISCLOSURE: I was actually offered a gig marketing the USPDF, but never got around to following-up. Yup, that’s unfortunate.
