Most Neckties Worn At Once

Pushing the limits of both blood circulation and neck strength, Opus Moreschi tied a whopping 97 neckties around his neck at once, a new universal record. The ties, which featured everything from cartoon characters to corporate logos, weighed a combined total of 7.4 pounds.

Moreschi’s daring feat was performed on February 11, 2009 at a World Record Appreciation Society event at Pianos, a New York City bar. His face turned slightly purple as he set the record, forcing witnesses Corey Henderson and Kate Sullivan to periodically check his pulse.

I’m not sure if I’ve ever had much a reason to wear a necktie, but I love ‘em. Not the clip-on ones, though. I just feel like a fraud in them.

So speaking of the “beat this record” button up there, my buddy Andrew hosted me in my current run of bumming for about a week (his ferrets were killing me, fun as they are) and in that week he showed me the fun of the Internet. Well, as I was traveling along aimlessly I found the world record site. Under “most people killed in a terrorist attack” was the 9/11 incident with a “beat this record” button.

    So if anyone…well, nevermind.
