UPDATE: Love Letters
(As some of you have noticed, yesterday I was on ABC News talking love letters. They love the letters, but they don’t love sharing – no embed – you’ll have to click through to see the video.)
At present, about a thousand people have signed up, and I’ve sent about a third of the total.
That said, I’ve also gotten almost as many requests from people offering to help (I’m looking at you Melanie Lee). Up until now, I’ve been reluctant to accept the help. I feel like I made a promise, a promise I’d like to keep. And I will. If you signed up for a love letter, you’re getting one, from me, eventually. But it might take a while. I can only do 5 or so per hour and don’t have that many hours to commit to this thing per night. So where is this all going? Well, for those who want to get involved, I’ll be setting up a system by the end of next week, some kind of double-blind love letter a la Postcrossing to link people who want to send love letters to people who want to get love letters in a way that we can all track. But that will be in addition to the ones I’m sending. How’s that sound?

That’s fun, sign me up. Maybe my whole 6th grade class too (not sure, gonna have to give it some thought, but it could be a good project). Keep up the good work!

1. Nice piece.
2. AMAZING hat. Where’d you get it?

You know I’d do it in a heartbeat. Let me know as soon as you’ve got it up and running!

You should partner with Postcrossing, call it Lovecrossing or something!

You’re a man that knows how to get it done. Well done as always. Let us know when the system is ready to use.

Yay Mia, that’s fun. Judging by the handwriting, that one was actually penned by the lovely Kristina, my girlfriend/partner in, well, just about everything. Glad you enjoyed it!

this would be much more exciting if i hadn’t signed up twice, and gotten nothing…
February 15th, 2009 at 2:37 pm
Devin,
I’ve got your address (twice I guess) and I haven’t forgotten about you. Honestly though, it might be a while. When I first offered to write them I had no idea how many people would sign up. At the moment I’ve got just shy of 1000 people waiting for notes. I’ve put a couple hundred in the mail already, but seeing as I can only write 5 an hour—and if I quit my day job, well, the postage would be the least of my worries—you see why it might take longer than expected.
I thank you for your patience though and know that I will get to it… soon. I hope you’re not too let down.

A system?
No way, i want a love letter from you Jake!

Elissa, both, you’ll get both. A system now and a letter from me any minute…

I think you have done a fantastic job fulfilling your love letter duty so far. I left 3 addresses of people wanting letters a few months ago and they all received them about a week ago! It was such a nice random surprise for all.
thanks!

I will gladly write love letters. Was going to do this on a smaller scale in my hometown every valentines to the broken hearted, lonely, and seniors… but never focused. I would be delighted to help.
