Twipple: Random Acts of Kindness via Twitter

A twipple is a Tweet, combines with a random act of public kindness, Flash Mobs, and a dose of silliness. Mr Fun Idea Floyd dreamt this one up, but didn’t feel his posting it himself was right (thus I got to chose the image - Floyd took the gem above using my camera at his birthday party last week), lets see if I can do it some justice.

The way it works is this:
Follow Twipple on Twitter. Make sure it’s updates go to your cell phone (not to worry, he won’t be updating that often). Then, every hundred new friends or so, Twipple will tweet a random act of kindness. @ it back right away so your followers can see what you’re up to, then do it. Whatever it is. Wherever you are. Sure, the visual effect of 1000 people doing kind the same kind deeds all in separate corners of the globe won’t be as striking as freezing en-masse in Grand Central Station, but  if successful, the social effect could be heartwarming.

Here’s a question: Twipple #1 was tell a stranger your favorite joke. Even if you’re not on Twitter, what do you think the team should do next? Post your answers below.

    Thanks for the mention Jake!

Did you really have to use that picture? I look like someone has inflated my head with a bike pump.

    Revenge my friend, revenge :)

twipple is doing OK - had a mention on Adrants on Friday and had 179 people sign up and sent the first twipple out.

It’s been fun learning more about the twittersphere - it’s an interesting place!

I’m telling you, if you get everyone to re-tweet it before the do it, you should be able to multiply (or at least up) the numbers quickly. Also, doing it every 100 followers lets people enjoying watching how fast it grows as the cycles will become faster and faster.

Thanks Jake - I don’t want to bug folk too much - but responding to DMs with a Re-tweet request is cool?

    I love the 100 at a time idea - it’s done. Now at 192!!

Just need some suggestion of good ‘twipples.’

    :)

How’s about “Call Customer Service to tell them what a good job they’re doing.” You could even include the phone number.

I’ll spare you where I got this idea.

    How’s about giving a hi-five to 10 strangers in a row?

  6. Jakehimself says:

Is “buy a homeless guy lunch” asking too much? (interaction + money = I might not want to do that)

  7. Floyd Hayes says:

@ Mark - now where did you get such a fabulous idea? :) Jake, with your permission?

Marissa - very good too - it’s almost like improvising something, but everywhere y’know?

Jake - why not. No one has to do any twipple at all and one or two things like this would be appropriate/fun thing to do.

    Thanks!

  8. Cassandra says:

Make eye contact with everyone you pass, and give a genuine smile.

Simple enough, and yet not enough people do it.

  9. Floyd Hayes says:

    Thanks Casandra!
