READER SUBMITTED: Koala Cuteness
Australian born reader and former roommate Amanda D, sends in this amazing letter from her mom back home:
“It has been so hot in South Australia for over a week…40+ degrees Celsius everyday – 104 F, very dry also. These are the photos of a little Koala that just walked into the back porch of a home around the way looking for a bit of heat relief. The lady of the house filled up a bucket and this is what happened!”
How fun is that? This settles it, I’m moving.

Mind you, ozzies tell me that Koala’s can be pretty hardcore if you get on their bad side!

Animal equivalent of Suri Cruise? Hardly. The koala is cute.

Yes Koalas can get aggresive, but in this heat they take all the comforts offered to them. This lil guy is so lucky to have a family who cares, some in Victoria aren’t so lucky as bushfires have ravaged their homes and they need help from veterinarians.

OMG! Save the Koalas! Too cute-it’d be great to have a Koala waterpark. They could float in innertubes to stay cool!

What I want to know is– how could they POSSIBLY only take 3 photos?!?! They owe the world more!

One dirty koala, look at the water color after the first pic. Or maybe it drank too much in the first pic. And it “just had too” when he felt the water after entering.

Wow that’s unusual, Koalas don’t usually drink, they get their liquid from eucalyptus leaves. He must be desperate.

Huh… Sometimes animals can look so human-like and other-worldly that they almost seem like Little pixies or elves from a fantasy story or fairybook. How neat that this tiny gnome of a Koala came for a visit, and how awesome that his adventuring encounter with the unpredictable and often crazy man-beasties went well.

Ironically, the name “koala” means “no drink animal.” Clearly, the aborigines who named it that never met this little fellow! Oh my word, how he loves to drink!

Wow! Cute AND it tastes like chook!

Thank you for posting this! I never knew koalas traditionally don’t imbibe to keep hydrated. So I learned something new thanks to this posting and I also enjoyed the anthropomorphism of the photos! Did I spell that right?

I’m afraid the heat and draught will dry up all the moisture from the tree’s and plants with global warming increasing at such a rate we will be a desert downunder soon and this little fella will be no more. If you want to save the Koalas, help stop Global warming NOW be for it’s to late. We need your HELP downunder.
Help, Help, Help!!!!

This happens regularly here in Australia. I’ve had to switch to taking showers, as everytime I fill up the bath my back door gets kicked in by a bunch of thirsty koalas.
