The Scrabble Solver
Ready for this, plug in any two to seven letters into the Scrabble Solver, and it’ll give you any (every maybe?) combination of words that can possibly be made. That’s good stuff for Scrabble Lovers, but just as good for desk dwellers… Yesterday, looking for the shortest words that make the most other words had me going for at least 10 minutes. Did you know Zoomdoggle spells 87 words? Among them: GLOOMED DOGLEG GOOGOL LOGGED LOOMED ZOOMED LODGE MODEL OGLED DEMO DOOM DOZE GOLD LOGO MOLD EGG. Hamster, though 3 letters shorter, makes over 150 more words.

Rouse has 38. I know that’s nothing to write home about, but for such a short word, it’s a pretty good score.

So far “dicationary” is my winner at 325. NOw I need a shorter word with just as good a score.

cinema = 60. That’s 10 per letter. That’s how we should be ranking out scores.

retains = 262 262/7 = 37+(3/7) words per letter
tisane = 105 105/6 = 17+(1/2) words per letter
neats = 52 52/5 = 10+(2/5) words per letter
seat = 24 24/4 = 6 words per letter
By the way, since this is using a scrabble solver, shouldn’t the words be limited to 7 letters? In a typical game of Scrabble there probably averages close to one word per game containing more than 7 letters. And that’s playing with really good people. Usually the bingos are just 7 letters. Also, each word should only be compared to other words of the exact same length. You could pick 14 common letters that make an obscure word and you’d get thousands of other words.
