Hidden Indi Hats

Heres a fun one, call it hat-vertizing, a brim-job, or just one hell of a scavenger hunt, but some Indiana Jones obsessed compatriots of mine have decided to “hide” 800 of these hats in four different cities starting today. In fact, while I type this, teams are cramming them into crannies, nudging them into nooks, and just plain hiding them them in plain sight in LA, San Francisco, Chicago, and right here in New York. It’s like luck-vertizing, but with hats. Find one and it’s yours to keep. All they ask is that you snap a shot of yourself wearing it and upload it to flickr with the tag “indyhat” (alt spelling: “indihat”). How fun is that?

NOTE: People are finding them, check it out on Flickr Indyhat Indihat.

I hate snakes and Nazis. I love Zoomdoggle and free stuff. Tell me where a hat is and I’ll take a picture and send it to you.

I see a bit of a flaw in your plan… 9 times out of 10, when I find things on the street, the very last thought I have is “I’d like to put that on my head.” I just find life is easier if I leave things I find off my head. It is a nice hat though.

Does this mean people have joined the fun team you’ve been trying to build, or that you yourself are traveling the country, hiding hats with one hand and blogging with the other?

I see you took my survey answer to heart.

So the pennies thing cost $50. Even with a bulk rate discount this had to be in the neighborhood of $2,000. Does this mean the banner ads are paying off or, wait, I know, someone got some corporate dollars to promote a movie. Still, thanks for including us in the fun. I’ll keep my eye out on my ride to work. If I follow the pattern (I found pennies on the L, saw the Fun-O-Meter just outside the N, and met you on the G) odds are the subway is littered with hats today.

So what happens with the hundreds of pictures? It’d make a pretty cool gallery show if you asked me.

Ooh, I really hope this kind of thing isn’t where the money I just lent you went.

  8. Jessica Mark says:

Wouldn’t the world be a better place if you just gave them to homeless people instead?

    Hi

    Thanks Jake!

The hats are brand new, so should be very wearable, 100% wool too. So look out for them…
