Think you can tell the real-deal from the faux pearly-peddlers? The BBC’s come up with a test based on research by Professor Paul Ekman, a psychologist at the University of California. It’s 20 questions, takes 10 minutes, and, if you score as poorly as I did, will probably make you question every smile, smirk, grin, and upside-down frown you come across for the rest of the day.

I got 15/20. First three correct in the first row, last two incorrect. Second and third rows all correct. Last row, second, fourth and fifth smiles incorrect.
